Practical coach/AD voice for charter and middle schools standing up athletics — Colorado-aware, useful nationally.
A clear path, not a binder full of theory
Starting athletics is less about inventing everything from scratch and more about seasons, people, eligibility mindset, and communication. Here’s the FRAS framing we use with schools.
- Seasons first. Pick which sports and which season windows fit your calendar, facility, and staffing — then protect those windows. Colorado seasons give a useful rhythm; the same logic travels nationally.
- Staffing basics. Name an AD (or AD-equivalent), head coaches, and who owns eligibility, transportation, and game-day ops before tryouts.
- Eligibility mindset. Grades, attendance, paperwork, and clear “who can play” rules — published early so families aren’t surprised mid-season. Pair with Google Form + Sheet workflows when you’re ready.
- Scheduling rhythm. Practice nights, contests, and blackout dates that match your school day and bus reality — not a college schedule squeezed into middle school.
- Parent & comms starters. One season letter, one expectation sheet, and one channel for updates. Keep it simple and consistent.
Charter schools
Many charters launch athletics without a legacy playbook. FRAS helps you define scope, avoid overbuilding year one, and look professional to families and opponents.
Middle schools
Middle school athletics should feel developmental and organized — clear seasons, fair playing-time philosophy, and coaches who know the school’s culture.
